Nut Rolls

This recipe makes 9 nut rolls.

INGREDIENTS

Dough

  • 9 cups flour
  • 1½ ounces quick yeast
  • 1½ cup sugar
  • 3 cups lukewarm milk
  • 6 eggs
  • 1½ cup butter
  • 1½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons melted butter

Filling

  • 3 pounds ground walnuts
  • 3 cups sugar

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Add 5 cups flour, eggs, sugar, vanilla and butter. Mix well and let rise 1 hour.
  2. Blend in remaining 4 cups flour and let rise 2 more hours, or until doubled in bulk.
  3. Place the dough on a well-floured board and divide into 9 equal-sized balls. Let rise 20 minutes.
  4. Roll each ball to ¼-inch thick. Brush generously with melted butter. Spread on the nut filling and roll up.
  5. Place rolls on greased baking pan and let rise 20-30 minutes. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes or until golden brown. When baked, brush the tops with melted butter.
