Nut Rolls
This recipe makes 9 nut rolls.
Ingredients
Dough
- 9 cups flour
- 1½ ounces quick yeast
- 1½ cup sugar
- 3 cups lukewarm milk
- 6 eggs
- 1½ cup butter
- 1½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Filling
- 6 tablespoons melted butter
- 3 pounds ground walnuts
- 3 cups sugar
Instructions
- In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Add 5 cups flour, eggs, sugar, vanilla and butter. Mix well and let rise 1 hour.
- Blend in remaining 4 cups flour and let rise 2 more hours, or until doubled in bulk.
- Place the dough on a well-floured board and divide into 9 equal-sized balls. Let rise 20 minutes.
- Roll each ball to ¼-inch thick. Brush generously with melted butter. Spread on the nut filling and roll up.
- Place rolls on greased baking pan and let rise 20-30 minutes. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes or until golden brown. When baked, brush the tops with melted butter.
