Little Nut Cakes

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 sticks butter
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 8 ounces sour cream
  • 1 pound nuts ground
  • 1 cup sugar
  • juice from 2 oranges
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Mix flour, sugar, butter, baking powder, baking soda, and salt like a pie crust. Add egg yolks and sour cream, mixing into the dough. Mix filling ingredients.
  2. Divide into 4 or 5 balls. Roll out narrow and long, but not too big. Spread filling and roll like a nut roll.
  3. Cut into ½-inch slices, put into paper cups, and place into ungreased muffin tins. Put half of a maraschino cherry on top. Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar just before serving.
